Deport the unvaccinated

No, I don’t advocate such a measure, this though I do think that anti-vaxxers are being both silly and asocial.

Manny is beautiful when angry

But it’s not what I think that matters, is it? It’s the deep thoughts of our leaders that carry serious weight, because their musings, unlike mine, can be translated into policy, and policy into action.

And Manny Macron has come precious close to proposing the punishment in the title above. No, he didn’t say that in so many words. Yet he did say that the unvaccinated Frenchmen “aren’t citizens” because they are acting irresponsibly.

Now, if acting responsibly were a conditio sine qua non of citizenship, most people I know, including yours truly, would become stateless before reaching the legal drinking age and certainly thereafter.

Who among us has never smoked, drunk to excess or driven dangerously? I bet every reader of mine has committed at least one of these indiscretions, and the worthiest among them must have been guilty of all three. There you are then. If you were French, Manny wouldn’t regard you as a citizen.

That statement of dubious legal value is a follow-up to the campaign against vaccine shirkers that Manny inaugurated the other day.

At that time he decided to add a touch of vox populi to his vocabulary. Hence Manny stated in no uncertain terms his intention to “piss off” the unvaccinated. That’s how the papers translated his colloquialism, but the French word he used, emmerder, is stronger, what with its excremental, rather than merely mingent, derivation.

The French papers are arguing whether or not it’s seemly for a president to use street jargon ex cathedra, which isn’t a debate I’m going to join – other than saying that we’d all be infinitely better off if our leaders abused their office with swearwords only.

What’s of greater interest is how French doctors responded to that call to arms. A large group of them signed a petition demanding that unvaccinated Covid patients be denied access to ICUs. Since those asocial vermin have only their own irresponsibility to blame, let them croak. See if French medics care.

This is a recurrent motif in the medical circles of various countries, including Britain. Until now it has usually involved smokers, with some NHS doctors refusing to treat them for pulmonary diseases.

One would be interested to know how such principled physicians reconcile that proposed policy with the Hippocratic oath they all took. I already know it’s irreconcilable with logic.

If self-inflicted diseases disqualified patients from treatment, we’d have to exclude smokers suffering from emphysema or lung cancer, drinkers afflicted with liver problems, overweight people with hypertension or diabetes – and let’s not forget athletes seeking treatment for injuries.

Add to this bad drivers who hurt themselves, clumsy construction workers who fall off scaffolding, swimmers bitten by sharks… I don’t want to let my phantasy run wild, but you get the picture.

Doctors take the oath to treat people in distress. Sanctimonious self-righteousness isn’t, as far as I know, an essential job qualification.

I’d rather doctors just swore at the unvaccinated, not withheld treatment – especially from those needing intensive care. Refusing to admit them to an ICU is practically tantamount to pronouncing a death sentence, and I don’t think that falls into the medical remit.

Having said all that, I do think anti-vaxxers should suffer the consequences of their folly. In that spirit, I’d ban unvaccinated athletes from competitions, especially those where the risk of spreading the virus is high.

Just look at our Premier League, where matches are being postponed en masse because many teams simply run out of players. Yes, ban the holdouts from playing by all means and, if such is your wont, swear at them, even in a language worse than Manny’s.

But taking away their access to proper medicine or, for that matter, rescinding their citizenship is immoral and despotic. Actually, these are two of the adjectives richly merited by most governments. Inane is another one.

  1. I don’t blame Manny for his loss of composure. He’s dealing with people who believe the vaccine has been designed to exterminate the vast majority of the human population in aid of some Malthusian conspiracy.
To some extent, the scientific elite have themselves to blame; what with Fauci’s unsanctioned experiment in Wuhan and subsequent denial of the viruses origin. But come on chaps, take the jab, stop holding the rest of us to ransom!

    1. Held at ransom? So, why did you bother getting the experimental memory RNA for? Wasn’t it suppose to protect you… or is that up to the 2nd, third, or 4th shot?

      1. The governments of the world will persist with some restrictions as long as there are those who refuse the vaccine.

        1. That is an argument against restrictions – not an argument for mass vaccination of an experimental gene manipulation product.

There is still zero evidence that any NPI, politically imposed (and lets not forget that lockdowns, face masks etc are entirely experimental) have made any difference to any country’s epidemiological curves.

  2. It was a surprised to me to be at odds with you on this topic. Does finding yourself in agreement with Presidents Macron and Biden and Prime Minister Jonson not raise a smidgen of doubt in your mind.
Robert F. Kennedy’s book, The Real Anthony Fauci, provides an alternative view of this topic. I had to read it as an e-book as the hardback does not appear to be available.

    1. If the gentlemen you mentioned were to say that the sky is sometimes blue and sometimes it isn’t, I’d agree with them. I’m really not affected one way or the other by those who share my opinions, nor those who don’t — regardless of how much I may despise the former or respect the latter.

    2. Alarm bells should be ringing, yet they’re not hearing them, so invested in the fear mongering are they. The vaccines/masks are the line in the sand for western civilisation.

  3. When I got the jab in the middle of last year, I had the false idea that getting vaxxed would make me immune to the pandemic and enable me to get on with normal life. But that has not happened, at least not yet. The jab seems to have some quirky side-effects: anger, fear, and rage directed against those few other people who refused to accept it.

Try to understand how the un-vaxxed see the situation: most of their friends and colleagues get jabbed, and then a few short weeks later they all turn into raging maniacs.

  4. Disappointed in this article and comments too. If none of you can see the govt/bureaucratic tyranny on display here then you are part of the problem and this website a fraud. You’re calling for a apartheid state, and any country or society that demands 100% compliance from it’s citizens for a dubious plan is a dictatorship. We have ceded our freedoms without resistance donning the ridiculous masks in a chilling act of mass delusion, granted the govts of the west control over our lives, choices and movement and this is the new normal, vaxxed or not. Boosters forever guys, as new strains with Greek letters appear around every corner and passports/papers required (on smart phone) to leave the house. BTW, I’m unvaxxed and PRO choice, if you want to put a fast tracked synthetic into your veins, go for it and enjoy the warm glow of self-righteousness, being part of the herd on the right side of history and put the likes of me in jail. All this for what amounts to the common flu with average age of mortality here in Australia at 86! Expected better on this site.

    1. Sorry to disappoint. However, freedom isn’t a suicide pact. At times of emergency, comromises must (and always have been) made. And if you don’t believe an emergency exists, just look at the list of cancelled Premiership matches – and the current rate of infection (one in 15 Britons is curently ill).

      1. That’s because Omicron is highly infectious not because it’s dangerous. If the footballers weren’t required by law to isolate, perhaps they’d take a couple of paracetamol and play on.

I’ve just had a normal cold followed by Covid, so I’m in a good position to compare symptoms. Cold: Lemsip plus a pint of ale. Go to work. Covid: Lemsip plus a glass of Bordeaux. Spend Christmas alone with Netflix.

Herd immunity from Omicron is our way out of this.

  5. USA if you show up a hospital and say “I am sick” by law they cannot turn you away and not refuse to treat you again BY LAW. If you are 100 % indigent the cost of your treatment is used as a tax write-off. I would imagine in the EU with the socialized welfare state medical system something similar must [?] exist.

  6. I have mixed feelings about the vaccine. At first,”hurrah! Finally we can put this thing behind us!”
But where I live now in Can. 90% are doubly vaccinated, including myself, and under yet another lockdown and curfew. I believe John Mac is fundamentally correct. Whether you agree with the ‘provisional’ govt tyrannies or not, Westerners have relinquished their basic rights far too easily. The war analogy used often to justify current emergency measures is false: Bombs and bullets would certainly kill or maim every Londoner/Berliner they fell on, whereas covid does so in very rare cases (1 in a 1000 perhaps), and even of these the folk are already fragile in health.
However, I find it hard to find fault with this article. The author is suggesting that you shuld get vaxxed, and if you don’t you should suffer the consequences, which exclude proper medical treatment, basic rights too if I understood well. Or did I not understand well?

  7. Mr B,

What part of the ‘vaccinated’ carry the same viral load as the ‘unvaccinated’ and are just as likely to catch & spread it, are you not getting here? We have the ridiculous situation, in parts of Europe, where healthy, unvaccinated people are banned from certain venues whilst symptomatic, ‘vaccinated’ people are allowed in to spread it willy nilly.

What part of the ‘vaccines’ having a negative efficacy against the latest variant (Omicron), in every age group except the under 18s, are you not getting here? You are statistically more likely to catch Omicron (and spread it) if you have received two or more doses of the ‘vaccine’.

Fifa reports an average of 4 players a year collapsing with cardiovascular problems. In 2021 that number was over 200.

Have you heard of VAERS, EUDRA or the Yellow Card?

The coercion to take experimental medical products is still recognised as a crime against humanity under the 1947 Nuremberg code.

    1. Since we’ve never had a Covid pandemic before, any therapeutic or preventive treatement is by definition experimental. Does that mean we should do nothing? At least 10 people I know (some of them not wrinklies) have died of Covid. I’ve never observed that mortality rate among my aquaintances before, in any epidemic. Nor do I remember 150,000 dying in Britain, this side of the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918-1919. Logically, not a single argument against vaccines adds up (some of them come from cranks who are opposed to any vaccination, full stop). I understand the libertarians’ rage though, but it’s misplaced. The touble isn’t with governments claiming emergency powers when a war or pandemic begins, but with them not relinquishing those powers after it ends. But you are of course right: when you get down to details, most governments have done many ill-advised things. This once one can excuse them though: they have no experience of Covid.

    2. “The coercion to take experimental medical products is still recognised as a crime against humanity under the 1947 Nuremberg code.”

Placing sick [with Covid] persons in a nursing home as was done USA and now going to resume almost unbelievably so killing large numbers of the infirm. A small child could tell you not to mix the sick with the elderly, especially with a respiratory virus none to be deadly.

Surely such actions must constitute some sort of mass murder. A crime against humanity.

And YES Nuremberg style trials in order.
